Adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights

Violation of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights can lead to dazzle of drivers of the vehicles moving a parallel course and be the reason of creation of an emergency on the road. Check of correctness of adjustment of headlights has to be made regularly time in 12 months, and also every time after replacement of block headlights and performance of repair of the bearing car front elements. It is necessary to draw the attention of readers to that fact that the procedure described below can be considered only preventive control. Final adjustment of optical axes has to be made in a specialized workshop of car service!


Each of block headlights is equipped with two adjusting screws. One of screws serves for adjustment of provision of a headlight in the horizontal plane, the second – in vertical (address an illustration above).

There are several methods of check of correctness of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights of the car. Below the simplest of them who is not demanding any special skills from the performer and not needing use of the special equipment is described.

Scheme of adjustment of the direction of an optical axis of head headlights

3 — the Line of crossing with a wall of the vertical plane which is carried out through the center of a lens of a block headlight parallel to the diametrical plane of the car

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Drive the car a front to a wall. Paste on a wall an adhesive tape strip on the vertical line passing in the diametrical plane of the car. Also paste vertical strips of an adhesive tape on the lines passing through the centers of projections to a wall of lenses of head headlights (address an illustration above).
2. Paste on a wall horizontally located adhesive tape strip on the line drawn through the centers of projections of lenses of head headlights to a wall surface.

It is simpler to make this procedure, having adjusted the car closely to a wall.

3. For performance of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights roll away the car from a wall on distance about 7.6 m.

The platform on which the car is placed has to have a plain horizontal surface, it is desirable with a hard coating. The fuel tank of the car has to be filled half, from salon and the luggage compartment all heavy objects breaking centering of the car are taken.

4. Begin with adjustment of the direction of an optical axis of passing beam. Try to achieve rotation of adjusting screws of block headlights such arrangement of light spots that zones with the maximum intensity of lighting it appeared in about 50 mm below the horizontal line and is touch sizes more right than vertical.
5. Having finished the first adjustment, turn on driving beam: zones of the maximum intensity of illumination have to be displaced in the direction of crossing of vertical lines from horizontal, having been slightly lower than the last.

It is not possible to receive equally full centering of beams of both near, and driving beam in practice. It is necessary to try to achieve some compromise solution taking into account features of operation of the car, keeping the aspiration to ensure the maximum traffic safety in the head of a corner.

6. At the first opportunity drive away the car on car repair shop for performance of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights with use of the special equipment.
